Hormonal imbalances and age can lead to hair loss and complexion issues. In addition to hormone replacement therapy, our medical providers at Rejuvime Medical prescribe oral medications to treat skin conditions and hair loss at our clinics in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Both women and men are affected by hair loss and skin conditions such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis, which are associated with hormonal imbalances. Even though male pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia) is typically more noticeable, it’s also common for women to experience significant hair loss. About 30 million women in the U.S. are affected by female pattern hair loss.

Hair Loss & Skin Treatment Medications

Hair loss is typically not considered a serious medical condition, but it can affect your self-esteem. If you’re interested in treating hair loss, we offer various medications that include:

Finasteride: Known by its brand name Propecia®, finasteride is an oral medication approved by the FDA for treating hair loss. It works by increasing hair growth on the scalp.

Dutasteride: Like finasteride, dutasteride (Avodart®) blocks the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT)—the chemical that causes hair follicles to miniaturize, leading to hair loss. Dutasteride is slightly more potent than finasteride. Unlike finasteride, it is not approved by the FDA to treat hair loss.

Minoxidil: Known by the brand name Rogaine®, you can apply this topical solution or foam to your scalp to promote hair growth.

Spironolactone: Spironolactone is an effective and safe treatment for androgenic alopecia, especially for women who may have tried other hair loss treatments without success. Spironolactone is also an effective treatment for adult acne caused by hormonal imbalances.
