We firmly believe that you can enjoy the quality of your life at any age. Understanding the physical and emotional changes that occur as you age can help you look and feel your best. Whether you need to meet with a hormone specialist at our Louisiana or Mississippi clinics or not, knowing what to expect as you get older can enhance your peace of mind.

Stages of Aging

In Your 20s

It’s natural to feel invincible during your 20s. Physiologically, your testosterone levels are at their peak in your early 20s and will start to decline as you get closer to age 30. Even though a guy in his 20s is at his prime, adopting healthy habits at this stage, such as getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and following a healthy diet, can slow down the aging process.

In Your 30s

The demands of work and a young family increase stress for many men in their 30s. Physically, muscle mass peaks in your early 30s, and you may notice subtle changes in how you look and feel. Carving out time for exercise despite leading a busier life enhances both physical and mental health.

In Your 40s

Testosterone levels that began declining in your late 20s may now have slipped enough that you are experiencing symptoms of andropause, such as a lower sex drive, trouble sleeping, and weight gain. Testosterone helps regulate muscle mass, bone mass, and overall physical function. As it drops off, you naturally become weaker and less able to perform physical feats.

Men often neglect the effect these changes can have on their mental health. It’s important to talk to your doctor or a therapist if you’re feeling anxious or depressed.

In Your 50s and Beyond

Andropause is in full swing after age 50. If you’re experiencing more pronounced symptoms associated with declining testosterone—brain fog, insomnia, excessive weight gain, lack of energy, sexual dysfunction—getting a blood test to see if you have “low T” is a good idea. There is no reason to sacrifice your quality of life simply because you’re getting older.
