How to do a Subcutaneous injection

Rejuvime Medical • August 8, 2024

One of our medical providers, Bre, gives a step by step tutorial on how to administer a subcutaneous injection.

Hey guys, it’s Bre, one of the nurse practitioners here at Rejuvime Medical, here today to show you how to inject a subcutaneous injection. Really is simple. It’s something that can be done at home or in the clinic, whatever you’re most comfortable with. Subcutaneous really is just that tissue right underneath the surface of the skin, so it’s very simple and pretty pain-free. It can be done here, in the tissue behind your arm here, in your abdominal area, your thigh, and even your booty. So to start, you’ll get your supplies ready. You’ll clean off your vial really well with an alcohol swab. And then for your needle, you’ll have two caps on it. So you’ll have one at the top and one at the bottom, a little wider one. So you’ll take the one on the bottom off first, and then remove the top cap and insert the needle there in the top and draw up the amount that’s prescribed to you. So depending on the medication, it’s dosed in units typically. So you’ll have 5, 10, 15, or 20 plus units, and then you’ll pull out whenever you’ve got the right amount there, and then you’re ready to give yourself the injection. So as you can see, it’s a pretty simple process, but if you ever have any questions or concerns about it, just give us a call.
